When Romance Met ComedyThe A.V. Club
I produced illustrations for the A.V. Club’s long-running When Romance Met Comedy column. The sheer variety of rom-coms demanded a flexible visual style, which I achieved through a focus on bright colors, cutout elements, and paper textures.

How did My Big Fat Greek Wedding make so much money?
Saving Face is one of the best romantic comedies of the aughts
Dirty Dancing spoke its conscience with its hips
Failure To Launch comes so close to working as a bizarre meta parody of rom-coms
William Shakespeare invented every romantic comedy trope we love today (Much Ado About Nothing)
In the 2010s, rom-coms went indie and saved themselves in the process
Ever After did the Cinderella story right
Judy Garland, Gene Kelly, and the bittersweet joys of puttin’ on a show (Summer Stock)
